In round 8 of the 2013/14 Women`s Pennant season today Lyrup maintained its winning form to defeat Waikerie 52-41 at Lyrup.
The home side won all three rinks, Noreen Burns defeating Judy Strauss decisively 20-11, but the other two by only one shot margins, Sue Lloyd 14-13 over Nancy Teasdale and Ros Smith 18-17 against Barb Taylor.
Meanwhile Loxton at home returned to winning form 61-48 against Renmark and Berri also at home remained in dominating touch 77-43 over Barmera.
For Loxton Bernie Mattner`s rink defeated Sylvia Brady 19-17, Margaret Schutz won well over Jocie Cooper 25-9 and Raelene Reichstein went down to Sandy Schulz 17-22 while in Berri`s big win it won all rinks.
Jan Grosser beat Carol Shugg 20-17, Marg Cooper`s group was in fine form in defeating Sheila Lockwood 38-14 and Kerry Treloar won 19-12 from Gloria Burns.
In Division Two Renmark RSL shook off its first loss for the season a week earlier to win 70-48 against Waikerie, Berri defated Loxton Blue 64-43 and Barmera won 64-47 over Loxton Red.
In Division Three Moorook also quickly put its first defeat for 2013/14 behind it with a 44-25 result against Barmera, Berri defeated Renmark 54-34 and Renmark RSL had a 39-30 win over Loxton RSL.
The Leader Board  in the Mid Week competition took on a new look after yesterday`s round of matches with Berri Blue taking over as clear leader with a 7-1 win loss situation for 180 points and Monash elevating itself to second on 6-2 and 162 points narrowly ahead of Loxton Blue, 6-2, 161 points and Renmark Gold,6-1,161 points.
Berri Blue jumped to top spot with a 110 to 69 win over Lyrup while Monash moved above Loxton Blue when it beat it convincingly 109-83.
For Monash Wayne Barnett, Trevor Verrall and Kym Ruediger all led their rinks to big victories.
In other interesting results fourth ranked Renmark Gold beat its club mate Green, fifth, 90-80, thanks to solid victories by Mike Brady 28-16 against Bill Cropper and Bill Dopson 25-12 over Mark Howe, Barmera Red ,18th, upset Loxton Red,13th, 92-65, Renmark RSL Red,12th, beat Berri White,7th, 97-81 and Barmera White,16th, defeated club mate, Blue, 8th, 96-62.
Other results were Waikerie 89-72 over Loxton RSL Red, Loxton RSL Black 82-74 from Berri Red, and Renmark RSL White 98-76 against Loxton White.
The Riverland Mixed Pairs Championships were played recently for 2013/14 at Waikerie with the event being won by Peter and Lyn Kimber from the Loxton Bowling Club.
Runners up were John Van Der Wyst and Joan Hodgson from Renmark RSL and Third John Morena and Julie Gartner of Barmera.
Also played last Sunday at Waikerie was the Region Four State Pairs Sectional tournament with 24 rinks taking part in six sections.
There were four three game winners that will go to to this Sunday`s Regional finals, Berri`s Andrew Hill partnered by Barossa`s Chris Kearns, Waikerie pair Roger Davies and Barry Harden, Dennis and Craig Treloar (Berri), and Gary Pursche and Andrew Fulwood (Waikerie).
To join them will be two game winners on shots up Terry Thurston and Peter Kimber (Loxton) and Mark Kubank and Graham King (Berri).
Thurston and Kimber just edged out Loxton RSL’s Jade Wright and Craig Inglis in section three by three shots up.
Wright/Inglis in fact defeated Thurston/Kimber 15-9 in the last game.
There was also a close finish in section six with Kubank/King and Barossa pair Ryan and Brydson both winning two games.
A win in the final game by Bill Dopson and Chris Karantonis 15-14 over Ryan/Brydson with the last bowl of the contest prevented the Barossa pair advancing to this Sunday.
