Waikerie Ramco scored an upset win over defending champion Loxton in the A Grade Cricket Grand Final at Loxton over the weekend.
Loxton was previously undefeated winning all of its 12 minor round matches while Waikerie Ramco had finished 7-5 and then had defeated Renmark in the ‘Preliminary Final’.
Waikerie Ramco batted first on Saturday and from 83 overs totalled 6 for 182. Ricky Griffiths scored 43, Mark Shaw 40 and Chris Schutz 37 while for Loxton Craig Fisher 2 for 10, Michael Gutsche 2 for 26 and Jake Albrecht 2 for 34 shared the wickets.
In reply on Sunday Loxton`s classy top order apart from Albrecht with 19 made a rare bad start from which the minor premier never recovered. Josh Norman 17, William Gutsche 14 and Will Lehmann 13 were the only other contributors. Waikerie Ramco`s often underestimated attack again simply ’did the job’. Nathan Paschke captured 3 for 15, Chris Schutz completed a good double with 3 for 13 and Tim Bevan, who with Ricky Griffiths juggled wedding committments to play, 2 for 4. After 57 overs Loxton was all out for 87.
One can never underestimate the value of runs on the board and pressure on the chaser in finals.
In the B Grade Gerard scored a come from behind win over Browns Well at Berri No 2 Oval on Saturday.
Browns Well from its 40 overs scored 9 for 159 after being 3 for 16. Brian Hampel contributed 36, Travis Victor 55 and C Patterson 24 while Adrian Abdulla Snr took 3 for 17 and a number of his team mates grabbed a wicket each. In reply Gerard was in real trouble with some of its main hopes including Tim Abdulla out when the score stood at 4 for 25 but a match winning partnership between George Halls 64 and Simon Sumner 66 lifted the total to 5 for 162 from 32 overs. For Browns Well Lachlan Patterson captured 3 for 35.
A good effort by Gerard in battling hard under that chaser`s pressure.
