Veterans “Johno” Johnson and Barry Rollusch turned back the years last Saturday when they produced an outstanding round of Four Ball Better Ball golf at Loxton. In the event, played in a stableford format, teams of two record their best score for each hole.
Johnson and Rollbusch combined brilliantly to compile an impressive 48 points.
They were out in 22 which was probably about as good as they would have expected. However their back nine was even more impressive.
Rollbusch chipped in for a birdie on the second for four points, Johnson secured a par on the third for another four and they finished their round with a three pointer on the final hole.
Johnson, who won his first Summer Medal a fortnight earlier, is in rare form while Rollusch has been playing steady golf for some weeks.
The runners up were Graham MacInnes and Tim Hucks whose 46 points would normally have been enough for victory.
But for the efforts of two popular veterans.
In Mid Week golf consistent David Unferdoren took the stableford competition with 40 points from that man “Johno” 35, and Mike Taylor 34.
Marlene Tyler with 32 points won the Women’s event.
Next Saturday sees a stableford competition. The popular nine hole Ambrose Ham and Turkey Day will be held on Sunday.
At the Renmark Club the annual Open attracted a number of visitors from interstate.
James Daly of Mildura with rounds of 75 and 79 for 154 won the championship from Westwood Ho’s David Dyles 158
On their home course Chris Berry won the B Grade with 159 and Phil Morris the C Grade with 180.
