Talk about from the frying pan into the fire. After having to deal with Indian and Australian officials in ‘helping’ them with some 20/20 cricket ‘issues’ I came home for some R&R and to slip back into the cushy job of picking winners for Todd and Doc.
Cushy be blowed this is the toughest weekend so far in 2014 and putting my neck on the line is worth more money surely.
NETBALL–not too bad Loxton to beat Barmera and Renmark to defeat Loxton North but Berri versus Waikerie? Berri played well last week but Waikerie despite its injury woes remains competitive. Waikerie just.
FOOTBALL–in the local A GRADE Barmera Monash to win against Loxton but the other two are hard to predict. Waikerie on form should defeat Berri comfortably but the game is at Headquarters where the Magpies have often struggled. I am going for Waikerie with it anxious to even up with the Demons after it had a party spoilt earlier in the season by Berri at Waikerie in an upset result. Renmark at home to Loxton North is even harder. The Rovers had their first loss last weekend but after a slow start against Waikerie it kept coming. The Panthers have been inconsistent. The home side narrowly after its wake up call.
–in the INDEPENDENTS—-help? Four hard to predict encounters on the one afternoon. Cobdogla with some players returning showed improved form last week and at home should beat Ramco. Blanchetown Swan Reach against Paringa in a rematch of the 2013 grand finalists could go either way but BSR is chosen on the strength of home ground advantage only. Lyrup, still probably not completely assessed is at home too, against undefeated top side Moorook Kingston, and although this is a real danger game for the visitor the Warriors get the nod. Also Browns Well is tipped to win against the threatening Wunkar in a thriller at Paruna, the home of the Bombers.
–To the MALLEE and it does not get any easier. Murrayville after toppling BDT the “untopplerable” last Saturday should be too strong for Pinnaroo, Peake are chosen to beat Lameroo at Peake and BDT to defeat Karoonda. Those last two who really knows? Lameroo was in good form last outing and Peake has been up and down while BDT would be anxious to get back on the winners` perch it has owned for so long. Karoonda though is on its day a threat but BDT to win.
HOCKEY–all matches are at Glassey Park. Tonight in the A grade games it is Loxton versus Renmark. The women`s game will probably be another low scoring, close battle between the two rivals but this time the men`s game, with Renmark up and about, also looks like being line ball. Pressure, pressure, pressure, but here goes, a draw in the women and Loxton just in the men. Berri meets Waikerie on Saturday. In the women`s clash Berri looks like a number of key players will return but Waikerie showed its best form for some time last week. Waikerie get the kiss of death. In the men`s game it is hard to go past a very impressive Waikerie unit.
I need something to sooth the nerves.
