By accident the mighty Superdogs have become part of the River Murray Cods in Australian Masters Football.
The `Dogs were meant to play River Murray at Pooraka last Sunday but the boys from Murray Bridge could only muster up 8 players. But in addition the double header plans were thrown further out of kilter when the program was not adhered to by another side effecting proposed starting times.
Solution? Superdogs and River Murray were merged into the River Murray Cods and took on Pooraka in a match shortened to the length of two quarters and did the same against Gawler.
The `Cods smashed the opposition in both games scoring overall 20-4 (124) to 7-3 (45). It was a great performance from the combined side as new mates gelled well and some slick passages of play eventuated. The River Murray connection to the combine was beneficial with former SANFL player Peter Window clever and prepared to share the ball with those of lesser ability around him.
On a sad note Superdogs ‘Dog Tag’ winner Dave Gregoric suffered concusion after hitting his head on the oval surface and spent the rest of the game on the bench. His ‘skills’ were also sorely missed at after match celebations.
Best Riverland players over the course of the confusing day were Deano Romeo, Darren Kennedy, Bruce Barnes, Rick ‘Haystack’ Frahn, Shane Healy and Jason Willshire.
Goals came from the boots of Greg McDonnell 4, Damo White 3 including two supergoals, Josh Falcon, Roger Victor and Doc Clifford 2.
