The first Summer Cup held for many years, the ‘Coopers Summer Cup’, was played in a stableford format over two days last weekend at the Loxton Golf Club.
Good numbers including visitors from as far away as Victor Harbor took part.
Two fine rounds for 40 and 39 points gave Chris Evans the trophy by one point from Loxton Football coach Leigh Kruger. Evans made a strong start on Saturday and was out in 21 and, despite two “scrubs” on the return journey he was home in 19.

Evans, in the last group to finish, sunk a par putt at the 18th for 3 points to give him the win, 79 points to Kruger 78. Evans had two more “scrubs” on Sunday but he compensated for those with six pars, one at the 13th that gave him three points.
Shane Schubert won the A Grade with 76 points and Leigh Kruger was awarded the B Grade.
Marlene Tyler continued to dominate the Women’s competitions winning by a comfortablr four points from runner up Karen Henwood, 68 against 64. Her rounds were 35 and 33. Junior Abbey Wilson only took part on Sunday and scored 36 points and may have been competitive if she had played the two days.
In Midweek stablefords Gordon Roberts continued his sound form in the Men’s division to win with 39 points followed by Terry Arndt and Darren Pfeiler 38 and Karen Henwood won the Women’s with 34 points.
The Winter season will be opened this weekend with Summer weather likely to continue. Traditionally the competition will be Men’s and Mixed Pinehurst events.
