Brothers Heath and Nathan Thorne started the new season where they left off 2015 in the Robert Gwynne Memorial Junior Track Championship at Sunline Speedway last weekend.
9 cars lined up in the event with Heath and Nathan filling the first two positions in the two heats. Heath set a new 10 lap record along the way.
In the 15 lap feature Paige Goldsack Gwynne pushed the Thornes hard but the brothers were superior in negotiating lapped traffic and finished Heath , Nathan then Goldsack Gwynne.
10 of the exciting Modlites appeared with Brian Chadwick winning two heats and Cory Hodgson one. With the highest points scorer starting from the rear Chadwick had worked his way to the front by half way through the third lap and he went on to win from Michael Brown and Duran Cowland.
There were also 10 cars in the Formula 500′s where Rory Stevenson set a 10 lap record but was still beaten by a comfortable margin by Brad Stell. Simon Reichelt finished third.
In other classes the numbers of cars were often down on those that had nominated but there was still some crowd pleasing racing.
Trevor Raams was untroubled to win in a field of 4 Modified Sedans and, after winning both heats of the 4 car V6 Sprints event, Danny Pauley won the feature under some pressure from Michael Buxallen, who set an 8 lap record.
Street Stocks saw Neville Nitschke take the honours after a close battle with Matt Starkey while in Super Sedans Daniel Obst looked the likely winner after winning the two heats. But it was not to be as in some hard racing in the feature Obst found the wall on a couple of occasions and in the end had to settle for second place behind Mark Sheen.
The next Sunline meeting is on March 12th.
Heat 2 of the Junior Championship, Classic Formula 500′s, V6 Sprints, Super Sedans, Modlites, AMCA’s and Modified Sedans are all on the program.
