It only took some four years to achieve but after our Riverland team was promoted to division one of the annual SAPSASA Carnival held in Adelaide that time ago its consistent performances since then paid dividends last week when it won the event for the first time.
Team coach  Lyn Leuders said “I am extremely proud of our girls winning a competition involving teams made up of the top players from primary schools not only in the country regions of South Australia but from the city as well.”.
“This makes Riverland number one in the State.”
There were ten teams in the division one competition and in a hectic round robin tournament Riverland won eight of its nine games with its only defeat being by five goals.
After the Carnival Ashlee Wutke (Cobdogla Primary), Eva Nikou (Renmark North) Lucy Dawes (St Josephs, Renmark), Courtney Tschirpig (Loxton North) and Ella Schultz (Loxton Lutheran) were named in a Year 7 Development squad with Waikerie Primary`s Connie Griffiths listed as a reserve.
Lyn Leuders (St Josephs, Renmark) will be the head coach of the 40 strong group as it undergoes a special coaching, training and information  program.
Members of the SA Thunderbirds squad will be involved.
At the Carnival in Adelaide Leuders` co-coach was Tegan Moldovan (Berri Primary) with their assistant Glossop High School`s Ebony Hoffmann.
Denise Moldovan acted as an umpire during the competition.
Meanwhile the other members of the triumphant Riverland team in Adelaide were Abbey Siviour (St Josephs, Renmark), Amy Stephens, Kirriley Wagner (Loxton North) and Laney West (Waikerie).
“We should also make mention of our second team at the Carnival” Lyn leuders said “as the girls there showed the depth the Riverland has in its junior ranks”.
“Those girls were also very competitive in their division and won three of their nine matches”.
Congratulations to all involved–you have done yourselves, your schools and the Riverland proud.
