Picking winners from week to week in Riverland Hockey is going to be a nightmare if the first two rounds are any indication.

It is worth reflecting on round one of the A grade—

–Men – Loxton and Renmark drew 1-1, Waikerie defeated Berri 8-1.

—Women – Renmark defeated Loxton 2-1, Berri defeated Waikerie 7-0.

Before looking at last weekend`s results—

In the Men`s A grade Berri produced a remarkable turn around in form at Glassey Park on Friday night to hold Renmark to a one all draw. Chris Martin, Sam Walladge and Mark Halliday led the way in the Berri resurgence while the best players named for Renmark were Luke Dowzard, Ben Duggin and Sam Cowey.

On Saturday Loxton then found some touch with last season`s RHA Best and Fairest best Tim Pannell outstanding with 2 goals and solid support coming from Michael Lange and Nathan Fielke as it put down a real Waikerie threat 3-1. Stand outs for Waikerie were Jason Redemski, Austin Hollamby and Rowan Hope.

Back to Friday night and in the women`s match Berri made it two from two in its exciting start to the season with a 2-1 win against Renmark. Newcomer Naomi Wetherill, juniors Charlotte Dominic and Kira McMahon and Australian Masters representative Jen Kiel were dominant for Berri with Tegan Moldovan, Amy Evans and Sarah Haslett best for Renmark.

On Saturday three goals from Steph Baird and excellent efforts from Louise Paschke, Shyanne Bonney and Cheryl Burgemeister led Loxton to an impressive 5-1 victory over Waikerie. Anna Kroehn, Lisa Redemski and Carlye Waye did well for Waikerie.

Meanwhile former Renmark junior Dalton Casey has been named in the SA Under 21 team.

Also the STATE COUNTRY squads have been announced with the women`s group including Loxton coach Tara Allister and former Waikerie player Amelia Harkness.

In the men`s squad to be coached by local Brett Stokes are Aden Shaw (Renmark), Zac Bartsch, Sean Burgess, Steve Trezise (Loxton) and Jason Redemski (Waikerie).
