Riverland Netball Umpires` Coordinator Misty Pfeiler summed it up best “This was a fantastic opportunity to develop umpires in our region from these highly experienced and respected umpires”.
Misty was referring to a visit this weekend by Netball SA’s Dusty Rea, the Officiating Development Manager and Deanna Stainer, the Umpire Development Manager. Both women hold hold umpiring National A Badges. Deanna has umpired the local A1 and A2 Grand Finals in the past two seasons and is currently Head Umpire of the Murray Regional Academy. The pair were here mentoring C Badge umpires from the region with the aim of them achieving B Badges.
Netball SA is looking at visiting 34 associations across SA as part of its program, mentoring and assisting with C Badge practical testing.
Last Friday night the Riverland Association had A1 and A2 Grade matches at the Loxton Lutheran Stadium between Loxton North and Waikerie and a repeat at the Loxton Recreation Centre between Loxton and Barmera in A1 and Loxton North White and Loxton in A2. This enabled one of the NSA officials to be at each venue to assist with mentoring and testing. On Saturday they mentored on the 15A game and tested on the 17A at Loxton North between Loxton North and Waikerie.
As a result of the weekend five local umpires received their National C Badge. Marissa Wilson and Ashleigh Potter (Waikerie), Jessie Miller and Marlee George (Loxton North) and Jeff Watkins (Renmark/Paringa).
Also a further seven umpires, both badged and non badged and current C and B Badged received mentoring and feed back.
Netball SA is committed to assisting the development of umpires in country regions and the local association is already commencing arrangements for another such visit earlier in 2016 and potentially programming a double header at Renmark Stadium.
