Just when we had built Cobdogla up as the club to watch in 2015/16 along came Renmark and defeated it 19 to 14 in Saturday’s round of Senior Softball.
Renmark A took the lead right from the very start as Cobdogla’s Colleen Smith pitched consistently but saw her good work undone by a number of fielding errors. Gemma Letton’s three bagger got her team firing in the first innings but this was countered by a three bagger from Cobdogla’s Chloe Passmore. It was a dour struggle with Renmark generally on top but Kelly chamberlain and Bron Smith both produced three baggers to help Cobdogla to a late comeback with a ten run dig in its tenth innings. But in the end consistency in the Renmark performance was the key to an impressive win highlighted by the fielding and batting of Angela McCann and efforts of Amy Selfe. Letton was also named amongst the best players for Renmark while for Cobdogla Jade Pech, Jesse Passmore and Bron Smith stood out.
Loxton A 22 won against Lyrup 1. To its credit Lyrup tried hard with Tammy Dowdy playing a great game strongly supported by Jordan marr and Nathan Mayne. The experience of players like Patty Carney, Hayley Symens and Cara Venning for Loxton was generall too much for the new team to counter.
Loxton B also had a win against Renmark 20-14 in a very closely fought and entertaining clash. A three bagger to Kylie Radloff helped Renmark to a 14-11 lead going into the last innings but Kathy Johnson batted a home run and Michelle Bradtke a three bagger to carry Loxton to victory. Johnson, Bradtke and Deb Lidgerwood were Loxton’s best and Kylie Radloff, Jack Ellis and Gemma Letton for Renmark.
To C Grade Renmark (Sarah Ellis, Danika Sullivan, Elia Finn best players)won 11-7 over Cobdogla (Amee Sutton, Brookelyn Roberts, Jasmin Mulvey), Waikerie (Adam Weir, Mel Briscoe, Bobby-Jean Taylor) 18-4 from Loxton (Heidi Scarlett, Jesse Symens, Julie Anne Wooldridge) and Berri with a good team effort won 15-11 from Loxton Green ( Tayla Wainwright, Kristen Bradtke, Molly Walmsley Cotham).
Primary Grade results included a close 8-7 win by Monash against Waikerie. Jack Sullivan, Minna Abdulla, Sonny Westcott played well for Monash and Ben Briscoe, Hayden Fridd and Mark Carter for Waikerie.
