Renmark Olympic, with a number of senior players returning to the lineup, played probably its best soccer for the season to defeat Loxton United 7-3 at Loxton last Sunday. Olympic coach Nick Sotiroulis acknowledged that it was a hard fought game but with the stronger lineup a confidence building victory. Renmark`s best included Abdul Nasery who put in a tireless effort, Lenny Gadaleta in the midfield with 3 goals, hard working Adam Catalano with a goal and Hari Sahota, whose blistering pace gave him 3 goals. Loxton coach Shane McPherson praised his side for its effort in the loss of a player with two yellow cards but at the same time complimented Renmark for taking its chances. Loxton`s best were Matt Wheeler who was again brilliant in goals and Nathan Brown for his hard work all over the ground. Geordie Franks scored 2 goals and Spiro Polymiadis 1.
In the other game Barmera United was an emphatic winner 13-1 over Berri River Rangers. The Pelicans perhaps reacting to the 4-4 draw between the two sides last time they met were ruthless from the outset and coach Kevin B descried it as “a pleasing game with two consistent halves and what we did on the training track during the week we rought to the game”. He also praised Rangers for being competitive under the constant pressure. Brock Van Der Biezen was named Barmera`s best of a very good lot along with Anthony Ielasi. Goals came from Martin Barber 6, Ielasi 4, Jim Fournaros 2 and Frane Radic 1. Adam Drogemuller scored Berri`s goal and along with Tyrone Franchitto was named as best.
In the Open Women`s competition Loxton United regained top position with a last ditched effort seeing it defeat Renmark 2-1. Meanwhile Barmera and Berri drew 1-1 after Berri led 1-0 at half time and looked the likely winner. Lucy Ayling and Nikki Harwood were outstanding for Berri and Allana Cormac the goal scorer. In Barmera’s fight back Tessie Mitchell goaled and Zanna Fournaros and Belinda Rayner starred.
