After bundling the top teams Parilla and Parrakie out of the premiership race in the semi finals of the Pinnaroo and Border competition Murrayville and Lameroo met in the grand final at Murrayville last weekend.
And it was the home side that took the title comfortably.
Batting first Murrayville started poorly against the bowling of Kym Benham, who finished with 7 for 51 from 16 overs, but a spirited fight back based on 89 from number six Rian Crane and 42 from Josh Willersdorf took the score to 232.
Apart from Benham`s performance Roger Pahl captured 3 for 55 for Lameroo.
Sensational figures from the pair but that was not enough as the potent Murrayville attack tore through the Lameroo batting lineup with Drew Crane taking 3 for 24, Darcy crane 2 for 22, Jake Venning 2 for 18 and Josh Willersdorf 3 for 28.
In Lameroo`s 101 Kurt Miegel, 25, and Craig Altus,16, did best.
In other news out of the Mallee it is reported that evergreen Parrakie and former Murray Districts and SA Country allrounder Greg Stephenson has taken out another Pinnaroo and Border “Cricketer of the Year” award.
Perhaps his ninth?
The runner up was at the other end of the age scale in promising youngster Ben Hannam.
