The annual SA Cricket Association Country Carnival started in Adelaide yesterday with Murray Districts Barrier losing by one wicket to Fleurieu and Districts Gold in a thrilling finish.

Batting first MDB recovered from 4 for 30 to reach 181 thanks to 67 from Berri`s Brad Rosenzweig, 25 from Adam Armstrong, 22 from Drew Crane and 18 from Max Everuss. For Fleurieu Gold P. Green did the early damage with 4 for 19 and S Druitt took 4 for 23.

In reply Fleurieu Gold lost its ninth wicket with 10 runs to go but reached 9 for 182 to win the 50 over a side game in a nailbiter. A missed run out in the closing stages cost MDB. For Fleurieu Gold K Heinrich scored 35 and J Scarff 25 with Brad Rosenzweig with 3 for 27 and a brilliant run out completing a fine allround performance for Murray Districts Barrier.

With umpires instructed to take a hard line with wides MDM gave up 28 runs from this source (including two ‘fives’ when the ball went to the boundary). Fleurieu bowled 13 wides.
