After finishing third in their 8 game round robin competition at this week’s Regional Academy Netball Championships in Adelaide the Mallee Under 17 years team produced two brilliant finals performances to grab the title.

This was a red hot field of nine academies from across SA and in preliminary matches Mallee defeated Lower North 20-14, Mount Lofty 35-17, Eyre 23-21 and Northern 26-14 and drew with Southern 14-14 and Spencer 20-20. It lost to Northern Metro 18-25 and South East 15-26.

In the semi final it met Northern Metro and reversed the earlier result to win 24-17 before winning the final 25-16 against Eyre. Eyre had defeated South East 23-21 in the other semi final.

The coach of the Murray team was Muriel Walter from Lameroo and members of the squad were Brooke Durdin, Connie Griffith, Neisha Hampel, Ella Schultz, Eva Nikou, Ashlee Wutke, Melody Pfeiler (Riverland) and Madison Fielke, Charlie Lewis and Molly Maddaford (River Murray).

The Murray Under 15 and Under 13 teams both reached the semi finals in their competitions.

The Under 15′s won 5 and lost 3 preliminary games then went down in a semi final 19-29 against South East the eventual winner of the division.

The Under 13 side also won 5 and lost 3 of their round robin games then lost a semi final to South East 13-25. It had defeated South East 21-17 earlier.

After the tournament seven Mallee players were invited to try out for the SA Under 17 State team.

They are Brooke Durdin, Connie Griffiths, Ella Schultz, Abbey Siviour, Amy Stephens, Ashlee Wutke (Riverland) and Charlie Lewis (River Murray).
