The Hockeyroos with former Berri juniors Karri McMahon and Georgie Parker in the team have finished runner up to Olympic champion Netherland at the inaugural World League tournament in Tucuman, Argentina.
In the final the Australian side led at half time after a tense battle1-0 with the goal coming from 2012 World Young Player Of The Year Canberra`s Anna Flanagan but a brilliant second half by the clinical Dutch side blew the game wide open for a 5-1 score line at the end.
Georgie Parker had a couple of half chances to goal but the livewire Netherlands unit was simply too good at the end.
However despite the result  this silver medal completes an excellent year for the Hockeyroos with coach Adam Commens saying ’ It shows how we`ve grown and progressed and we are competitive with the top teams in the world and well placed going into the World Cup next year’.
The Hockeyroos won the Oceania Cup, World League Semi Final tournament gold medals, the International Super Series title and have qualified for the 2014 World Cup in Hague.
In the World League the Australian team drew first up in Pool B with World Champion Argentina 1-1, then defeated China 5-1 and New Zealand 5-1 to finish equal top after the round robin with Argentina.
Georgie Parker had scored the first goal against New Zealand while Karri McMahon had started in all matches.
The quarter final against Euro champion Germany was a contest that required holding the nerve and the Hockeyroos, aided by some sensational saves by Rachael Lynch, held up best to win a shoot out 4-2 after scores had been tied 1-1 at the end of ordinary time.
Then in a “Test” against rival England the Hockeyroos won 3-0 in the semi final with Karri and Georgie both scoring a goal.
In fact reports said that up until then Karri had ‘not even had a look at the goals’ but when the chance arose she slammed it into the net brilliantly.
With Karri to talk to the Premier Sports “Young Guns” in Vaughan Terrace next Sunday, 15th December,  there will certainly be a lot for her to chat .
However we will be also anxious to talk to her about the journey, Berri juniors to Australian Hockeyroos in such a short period of time?
