In the first of the Loxton’ Golf Club’s Summer Monthly Medal competitions after  five holes ‘Johno’ Johnson could have been looking towards the 19th when he was eight over the card after only five holes. But suddenly he turned around his poor start with a series of pars mixed with some bogies and topped it off with a four on the difficult 17th. Heading for the 18th he appeared to have an unassailable lead of four nett strokes over his nearest threat, his playing partner for the day Garry Mudge. But Mudge clawed back three strokes while Johnson had a disappointing seven to close. Johnson still had enough in hand though to win the medal with 97/70 from Mudge 94/71.

In Mid Week Golf a par event went to Ron Nagy after a solid round left him at plus four with Steve Patching close behind on plus three.

Jill Fogden with minus four just beat Marlene Tyler, minus five, in the women’s competition.

One of Loxton’s most prestigious events its Loxton Hotel Riverland Amrose will see teams compete from across the region next weekend.
