Following last month’s SAPSASA Athletics Carnival in Adelaide 11 year old Isabella Cant from St Joseph Primary School, Renmark, and Sarah Beames,10,  of Moorook Primary were named in the State team for the National Championships in Sydney from 25th until 29th November.

Riverland sent 66 athletes to the SA Carnival and it was represented in all events across four track and four field categories in four age groups, 10, 11, 12 and 13 years.

There were 22 country teams at the competition and Riverland with 196.64 points finished runner up to Gawler, 224.7. A wonderful performance with many athletes achieving personal bests and the squad bringing home 8 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze medals.

Riverland made the finals of all eight relays and medalled in two.

GOLD medals were won by Isabella Cant and Sarah Beames, both over 800 metres in the age division. Isabella also claimed a bronze medal. Angelo Otero (Renmark North Primary) and Tahlia Drogemuller (Loxton) also won gold as did Connie Doupis (Barmera), Renee Johnson (St Joseph, Renmark), Matilda Rothe (Renmark North) and Tahlia Drogemuller in the 12 year old Girls Relay.

Amy Smith of Ramco Primary, Tahlia Drogemuller with two, Ariel Rowe (Loxton), Mathilda Rothe , Renmark West’s Bailey White and Waikerie Primary’s Mitchell Hahn all grabbed SILVER Medals

Bringing home BRONZE were Isabella Cant, Tahlia Dillon (Barmera), Anna Son (Renmark), Alex Gray (Loxton North) and the 13 year old Boys Relay team of Jesse Thiele (Waikerie Lutheran), Saxton Caddy Mitchell (Monash), Stefan Kudra (Loxton Lutheran) and Daniel Drum (Barmera).

In summary that means apart from Isabella Cant’s performance Tahlia Drogemuller was the leading medal winner with two gold and two silver.

Matilda Rothe won a gold and a silver.
