Premier Sports ‘Young Gun’ and 2012/13 Beaurepaires Peter Frankcom Riverland Junior Sports Star Of The Year Ryan Goodes has won a silver medal in his division at the National Championships staged in Brisbane.
Ryan was the only Riverland boxer that qualified for the titles.
In the final Ryan ran into an opponent that was little known up until then, but extremely promising in Liam Paro from Queensland.
Early however our Riverland Boxing and Fitness Club junior had beaten two highly rated opponents, both in unanimous decisions .
Firstly he defeated Tasmania`s Jack Seabourne and then, the favourite for the title ACT`s Alex Cooper, who had beaten Ryan at their previous two meetings.
Ryan certainly took a hectic preparation to Brisbane with him as since early November he took part in some seven competitions including high quality bouts in Germany and a victory over a Singapore champion in Adelaide.
The fight against Paro was a qualifier for the World titles but missing out has not deterred Ryan and he has simply re-set his goals as far as his ambitions are concerned.
A well deserved rest will be followed by even more determined preparation for 2014.
