Loxton golfer Andrew Hume won the Berri Hotel Open Championship at the Berri Golf Club last weekend.

The victory continued a rich vein of form for the allround sportsman as it followed closely behind his titles in the Riverland Men’s Matchplay and Loxton Open events.

In the 36 hole Berri Open Hume finished on 150 strokes well clear of Renmark’s Brayden Jenke 161.

The B Grade went to Wayne Thiele (Berri) 171 from Damian Dolman 173 and C Grade to Paul Keane (Barmera) 191  ahead of Ron Nagy (Berri) 192.

In the Men’s 36 hole Handicap Berri captain Paul Mudge won with 147 nett with Corey Foreman (Renmark) the runner up with 151 nett. The B Grade was taken out by P Cummins 152 nett from A Giles 154 and C Grade by T Crease 143 from G Eitrich 154.

The Ladies 36 hole handicap was a strong competition. Another Berri captain Wendy Hocevar, 143 nett, was the winner from club mate Sandra Tyndale, 149. The 36 hole Stroke event was won by visitor Glenys Ferguson (WA) 162 with the runner up Lameroo champion Deb Christie 167.

18 hole events were also played on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday Renmark’s Matt Lewan 75 won on a countback from M Pilington in the A Grade, David  Dawson 73 won the B Grade from Nev McPherson 74 in B Grade and in C Grade C McLoughlin 70 also won on a countback from J Parish. The Ladies was won by C McKinlay 68 from J Adams 71.  Sunday’s Men’s winner was Chris Berry (Renmark) 73 from Shaun Harris (Loxton) 75 in A Grade, the B Grade went to power hitting Danyal Reynolds (Berri) with 73 ahead of G Calgie 74 and C Grade to A Roberts 78 from Paul Othams 80. The Ladies event was won by L Mudge ahead of L Berry.

Danyal Reynolds fired an Eagle on the fifth hole over the weekend.

Apart from a bit of drizzle on Saturday morning the tournament was played in good conditions on a course that drew praise for the grounds people from all and sundry.

The previous day, Friday, a stableford event was won with 41 points by Glenys Mack followed by Lawrie Bennett 38 and Wendy Hocevar 38.
