At the 2015 SA Country Football Championships played at Port Augusta last weekend Eastern Zone, comprising the Riverland, Mallee and Hills Leagues, finished fourth in the six zone competition.

Southern Zone, a usual power house in the tournament but the wooden spooner in 2014, bounced back strongly to complete a bottom to top performance by winning its two Saturday games by 2 points over Northern and 14 points against Eastern to meet defending champion Mid South East in the Grand Final on Sunday.  In a thrilling contest Southern 9-8 (62) defeated Mid South East 8-11 (59) to grab the title by 3 points.

In Eastern`s opening game on Saturday it went down 6-2 (38) to 7-10 (52) to Southern. Named as the best two players for Eastern were Berri pair Adam Beauchamp and Darren Marner.

In game two Eastern defeated Northern 8-5 (53) to 6-9 (45) leaving it to play off for third and fourth against Western. Western won convincingly 14-6 (90) to 3-8 (26). Mallee`s Nick Hyde was named best for Eastern with Darren Marner and young Loxton player John Fisher also mentioned.

Two Hills players were selected in the Team of the Championship, Wade Hancock and Harley Montgomery, and Eastern`s Best and Fairest Player for the weekend Darren Marner was named on the Interchange. The team will head for a match against WA Country in Western Australia.

Adam Beauchamp was another Berri player rated highly by Eastern officials.
