Renmark’s David Grenfell was named Riverland Baseball’s Best and Fairest A Grade Player for 2016/17 and received the prestigious Bament Wesslink Medal at the Association’s annual Presentation Dinner last Saturday night.

A feature of the evening was a tribute to his good friend and tireless worker for baseball, including in the Riverland, the late Ken Wesslink by Kym Bament.

The runner up in the medal voting was Berri pitcher Jesse Stemberger, Kris Taylor (Berri) was named Rookie of the Year and the Home Run trophy was won by Luke Prokopec (Renmark).

Included in the A Grade Team of the Year were Adam Weir (Waikerie), Ace Prokopec, Grenfell (Renmark), Nick Morrow, Jesse Frazer, Taylor, Nick Kuhn, Paul Reid, Dylan Christian, Stemberger (Berri).

Nick Kuhn was named the coach.

Outstanding young Waikerie prospect Zeus Baker took out the B Grade Best and Fairest award ahead of Berri’s Tony Halupka. He also received the Best Under 18 Player trophy.

Tom Brook (Berri) won the Rising Star award and the Home Run trophy went to Hamish Eske (Renmark Blue).

The B Grade Team of the Year included Baker (Waikerie), Shane Healy, Glen O’Brien (Renmark White), Michael Bruce, Kevin McDonald,  Eske (Renmark Blue), Halupka, Brook, Jamie Frazer, Alec Threlfall (Berri). Roley Beviss (Berri) was named coach.
