A week out from the 27th annual Berri Resort Hotel Open Singles Championship weekend entries had topped 300 and were ahead of 2013, when 350 competed, at the same stage.
Tournament Director for all of the 27 years Neil Lemmey said that although it appeared last year`s champion Phil O`Reilly would not defend his title many of Australia`s top players would again be chasing the $16,000 in prizes and trophies that were on offer.
They included previous winners like Mick Delahunty, Jake McCartney, Aleck Evreniadis, former local Russell Youlten and Adam Andretzki.
“And throw in another two players as possible champions” Neil said. “Murray Bridge`s David Rothall and a newcomer from Melbourne Ben Judge”.
Events start in the ‘something for everyone weekend’ at the Berri Hotel this Friday night then the players will be seen at that venue and around Riverland community clubs on Saturday for the championship sectional play. The Lyrup, Monash, Cobdogla, Barmera Hellenic and Berri clubs willl be utilised.
Then all finals will be at the Berri Resort Hotel on Sunday. Spectators can see some top class eightball from good viewing areas.
