There was no sailing at the Lake Bonney Club last weekend but three boats entered one of the biggest sailing races in the country, the Milang Goolwa Freshwater Classic.

1,000 sailors took part this year with yachts from 4 to 8 metres on a course involving 50 kms across Lake Alexandrina and then down river to under the Goolwa bridge.

Light to moderate North Easterly winds made for a good race for LBYC members with upwind work across the lake and spinnakers to be set and used down river. The three boats were outstanding to achieve top three finishes in two division. There were nine divisions in all.

In Division 5 for ‘Sports Boats’ Peter Arnold, James  Arnold and Jeremy Nesci aboard “Viper LD” finished third.

The other two LBYC yachts were in the largest division, division 9, involving 32 ‘off the beach catamarans’.

Steve Thomas with “Cat-titude” finished first with Peter Dunk and Kirsten Thomas with “Sixth Element” second.
