In a big weekend at the Loxton Golf Club championship qualifying rounds were held as well as the Monthly Medal.
Saturday in challenging cold and wet conditions the Monthly Medal competition was also the first qualifying rounds for the club championships. Despite not having played the game for two months Andrew Golding handled the conditions best with his 94, nett 74, including seven pars in an even round, out in 47, back in 47. Andrew Hume and Brenton Chapman were close behind with nett 75′s. That meant Andrew Golding grabbed the Loxton Pharmacies Monthly Medal.
Sunday shifted to round two of the qualifiers. John Henwood had an outstanding 88, nett 69 starting with two pars and a birdie and never faltering, adding successive pars at the 10th, 11th and 12th. Again Andrew Hume was second with a 74/72. Playing off his 2 handicap over both days he recorded 11 pars and birdied the 10th. He comfortably qualified first in the A Grade and on current form will be difficult to beat for the title. Daryl Tyler was next best recording 80 and 78 for the two rounds.
Best in B Grade was Hassan Kara-Ali and in C Grade John Henwood.
Only a few of the Women’s Quarter Finals were completed with Karen Henwood and Jill Fogden moving through to the A Grade semi finals.
In Mid Week play Hassan Kari-Ali cruised to victory by four clear points. His 39 was far too good for the rest of the field with Berri’s Dallas Zeliff and Renmark’s Gordon Seddon both on 35 his nearest rivals. Cathy Arndt’s 33 points saw her an easy winner in the Women’s Stableford.
