Current Loxton Golf Club Champion Andrew Hume followed his good performance in his club’s Open Championships the previous weekend by winning the Loxton Pharmacies Monthly Medal last Saturday and also topping the qualifiers for the 2016 A Grade Championship over Saturday and Sunday.
With the course in very much the same condition as it had been for the Open Hume’s effort was exceptional.
On the front nine on Saturday he birdied the par 5 sixth hole and bogeyed the ninth in returning a good 36 off the stick. But it was in the back nine he sizzled with an eagle on the 10th in his one under par 35. With his handicap of 3 he had a nett 68.
Former footballers Nick Uren and Rod Koch were also outstanding in B grade with nett 70.
In the Women’s Monthly Medal Marlene Tyler followed her Open victory by winning the A Grade with a nett 77 and Cate Cahill continued her fine form in taking out the B Grade with nett 82.
Saturday’s play involved the Monthly Medal—Championship qualifying jointly and on Sunday the second qualifying round was held with Peter Harman 79/72 on top.
Qualifiers were then Hume 151, Brett Proud 160, Harman 167, Ash Pfeiler 170, Daryl Tyler, Craig Wooldridge 171.
This Saturday, August 13th, Hume and past champion Proud will have a bye and in quarter finals Harman plays Tyler and Pfeiler meets Wooldridge.
The Women’s Championships has progressed past the first round. In A Grade Janice Sawade defeated Jill Fogden 5/4, Jenny Patching and Beth Rollbusch have progressed in B Grade and Abbey Wilson has moved into the second round in C Grade.
