The annual SA Athletics League Nippy’s Gift meeting at Loxton next Saturday night, 25th February is the second richest carnival of its type in the State behind the Bay Sheffield and is commonly recognised as one of the most professionaly run meetings in Australia.

It continues to attract some of Australia’s leading athletes and this year in the 120m Men’s Nippy’s Gift young Adelaide sensation John Evans,17, has been installed as favourite. Evans recently won the Camden Classic but at Loxton he will run into some tough opposition including previous Nippy’s winners Clay Watkins, Jarrad Dartnell, Brad Shutz and Ryan Hancock.  Bay Sheffield finalists James Cibich, Tim Johnson and Jordan Tronnolone are also in the field.

Including finals there will be some 50 races on the action packed program in a venue that is spectacular with its grandstand and racing under lights on a highly rated track on the Loxton main oval.

The Women’s 120m Gift also looks like being hard fought with another outstanding young Adelaide athlete Mollie Farmer,14, amongst the favourites on the strength of her victories in the 70m Bay Sheffield and 120m Maryborough Gift in Victoria. Another junior Rose Pittman is also highly ranked alongside Lynette Viney and Ali Trewartha.

Race distances will vary from 70 to 1000 metres with the entries in some of the junior divisions amongst the SAAL’s biggest ever.

At the end of Loxton’s Mardi Gras Day admission to the Oval is free with five hours of entertainment to commence at 5pm.

A display by Little Athletics members and relays involving local netball and football clubs are also on the program.
